When we decided to announce Geode, I don’t think we ever thought we’d be getting the responses we’ve been getting in the past few days! I personally want to thank each and everyone who has come to this site and left comments, left emails, or have posted about Geode in other forums. I do want to let everyone know that you are being heard, and we’re working hard to get this wonderful little app pushed out the factory doors.
As for beta testers, we will need them once we feel comfortable about releasing to beta status. As for right now, the doors are closed. We will be releasing more information about the program as time goes by. Right now we’re more concerned about building a great product for you to use.
Again, I am simply astounded by everyone’s outpouring of compliments towards our product. Keep up the comments and emails! Also, if you have any requests or inquiries, feel free to email/twitter/comment!
All the other factory workers are excited about this as well!

I have a question about syncing gpx files. Will this work on an ipod touch without wifi and gps? I still plan to use my delorme pn-20 to geocache but it would be nice to be able to use the gpx file to view cache information while out. I’m sure I’d make my friends jealous when I whip this out to view a description, hint or a log. The pn-20 allows this with gsak but it only allows 800 characters so most of the information has to be shortened.

Hi John,
The iPod Touch does have WiFi, and the syncing of GPX files with your PC or Mac will happen over your local WiFi network. You’ll still be able to use the app to browse the data, you just obviously won’t be able to use the maps unless they are cached, and you won’t see your position on the map or the compass rotation.
We haven’t yet done testing with the iPod Touch, but I’ll do my best to make sure all these features work and we gracefully handle the lack of a GPS or network connection.

I guess I’m in much the same situation with a 1st gen iPhone, albeit with basic location sensing via cell towers. I’m holding off upgrading to the 3G until a killer app comes along and it sounds like Geode could well be it, although I’m guessing battery life will be a problem for a full day caching. It seems to me iPhone with Geode should be a perfect ad hoc caching solution for one off lunchtime caches but a real dayout will be Geode and my trusty etrex. Either way I feel the perfect excuse to buy a 3G is heading my way. Oh dear, must go and find a towel, I’ve been dribbling all over my Macbook
Roll on release day.

go for it man. as soon as i heard about GPS on the iphone my first thought was that it could revolutionize geocaching. i downloaded geopher lite but found it lacking and unusable (no offense geopher, i think it was an honest and good try).
extremely anxious and curious about your app. don’t slow down!

I agree about the “lunchtime cache” comment, that’s one place we hope Geode will shine. As for the battery issue, we will have the issue to turn off the GPS unit to conserve battery when you’re plotting/mapping/etc. 3G is also a big time battery killer…so I personally turn off 3G and I’m back to iPhone 1.0 battery life.
Of course, one of our top priorities is to keep battery life at a maximum for this exact issue.
And oh, thanks for the interest brendan. We’re still going full steam ahead!

With your comments about being able to display/utilize the gpx file without needing wifi except to link with my pc, I am very excited about this app. It is now number 1 on my list right above a good pdf viewer (to display pdf’d maps of all my caches in an area).

Looking forward to this, tried caching with printouts, but it`s a pain.
Didn`t spot it on the features page, but can you make sure you add a button for tagging a cache as found (store date and time), and allow a little note to be added, i.e. took hippo, left key ring etc.
